According to MTV.com, Raimi said, "A writer is being sought to write the next installment. We're in the very early stages. I won't be working on the story. It'll be a brand-new writer coming in with a brand-new story -- a fresh take on the Spider-Man series." Raimi also discussed his non-involvement with the possible Venom spin-off movie, saying, "That's probably for someone else." As for the perennial question about a fourth Evil Dead movie, Raimi commented, "Maybe we'll make another one. It would be nice to at some point."

They concur about the writer search but there, while discussing other topics, Raimi "says" that actually directing would be dependent upon the script and his schedule at the time the green light for Spidey 4 is given. Upon checking into this further, it appears Raimi is waiting on the final script before making that decision. (Hence the changing of the headline on this thread.) Regardless of whether he directs, though, he has said he will serve as a producer of SM4.
